Quality Pet Food a luxury or a necessity?
Have you ever opened up a container of pet food and thought to yourself "Ugh, I could never eat that"? Maybe you should think twice about feeding it to your beloved pet too. Animals can eat some amazingly offish things but given a choice all animals will thrive and survive a lot better on fresh, wholesome food. For decades doctors and dietitians have been trying to tell us humans that we should stop eating so much processed and junk food - why should it be any different for your pet? When you open up that can of food and slop it out into their bowls (did you clean the bowl too?) you're giving them fast food.
For aquarium fish, keep up a good supply of live worms, mosquito larve and various greens (peas etc) - infrequently resort to flaked food or pellets, who knows what's in those foods. Fed on a live and fresh diet fish colours are far more brilliant and their health is superior.
Cats can be very fussy eaters, did you know that they generally lack the ability to taste sweet things... so why is it that companies still put sugar into their food (delightful, they can't taste it and to add insult to injury their teeth will suffer). Fortunately a lot of supermarkets are now carrying fresh meat mixes in the meat section, this is an excellent replacement for canned meat. Don't forget to pick up some fresh whole fish when you can too, no doubt your cat will truly appreciate your attentiveness to their diet.
As for birds, being couped up in a tiny cage isn't very good for them, so the very least you can do is ensure they have top quality seed with variety, lots of fresh foliage, check to see if your bird is actually omnivorous and needs some meat in their diet in the form of insects or grubs, birds don't just always live on seed alone.
